At PAUL B. HALL REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER, a miracle happens nearly every day...a new life is brought into the world.  Because it is such a miracle, what goes into making it a special event at the hospital is sometimes overlooked. “We’re small but our patients feel more comfortable. We know the families and, therefore, we are not impersonal. Each baby is like a new member of our own family,” observed Furnell Rife, MSN, RNC, APRN, BC, CCE, Associate CNO.  Furnell is the Supervisor of our hospital’s Obstetrics Unit.

The nurses at PAUL B. HALL not only give personal care to their patients but they are highly skilled and trained in their profession and in their special duties. Each OB nurse is certified in Neonatal Advanced Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Some of our OB nurses even have certification in Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course training. Ms. Rife holds certifications as a Certified Childbirth Educator and Inpatient OB Nurse.

Continuing education for our staff is important to us at PAUL B. HALL REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER.

One unique feature of our OB Unit is the Birthing Room. This room has all the medical features of a traditional delivery room but is designed to make the patient feel more at home. Softer colors, a ruffled bedspread, paintings and a flower vase are just a few of the amenities that make this room more comfortable for the mother-to-be.

Classes on childbirth are held regularly in the hospital’s annex building and each patient is given an orientation prior to her delivery date. OB nurses work closely with obstetricians’ offices for the best possible patient education. Parenting tips, such as diapering and bathing, are also available through videotapes for the patient expecting her first child.

Almost 375 babies are born each year at PAUL B. HALL REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER. Most mothers return for the birth of subsequent children. They find our OB nurses more experienced and our environment friendlier and less intimidating. Equally important are the hospital’s Nursery Security Program and our post-partum follow-up contact with all patients.

Having a baby is an exciting and significant event. That is why we encourage family members to participate in the experience. Fathers, grandparents and siblings over the age of 12 are allowed to visit in the mother’s room and are encouraged to become more knowledgeable of the delivery process.

At PAUL B. HALL visiting hours are rather flexible in most instances.

If you are expecting a new addition to your family, ask your obstetrician about the facilities and staff at PAUL B. HALL REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER. We are here for YOU...YOUR  FAMILY...and YOUR  HEALTH!
